I’m vaccinated, now what? Congratulations on getting vaccinated against COVID-19! Vaccination is an important tool to help stop the current pandemic; the more vaccinated people there are, the better off we all are. But how safe am I, really? As a fully vaccinated person, you are well protected. If you are exposed to the virus, your risk of developing symptoms and becoming severely ill is lower.

On the other hand, the virus has continued to evolve, becoming both more transmissible and more deadly. Compared to the original form of the virus, the Alpha variant is estimated to be about 50% more transmissible and between 40-70% more lethal. But if you thought Alpha was bad, meet Delta. This variant is thought to be 60% more transmissible than Alpha and is even more likely to lead to severe illness and hospitalisation. So, don’t toss your masks out just yet. Vaccine alone won’t stop community transmission. People need to continue to use masks consistently, be in ventilated spaces, hand hygiene, the physical distance, avoid crowding. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, find one now, seriously! It could save your life and the lives of everyone you love.
